During a long workday or work week it’s can be challenging to keep yourself physically energized. However, there are several common things at your fingertips to help with that; for example, there’s coffee, lunch breaks and exercising. But what do you do when you mentally need motivation? Taking advantage of the benefits of aromatherapy and essential oils can give you an instant mental boost throughout the day.
When you’re feeling stressed:
-If you are dealing with stress at home, or anxious about something at work, the scent of Lavender or Chamomile can help to relax you. Chamomile helps ease inflammation, and can be found in a lot of teas. Lavender is often used to induce sleep, so it has a major calming effect that you can access through burning lavender oil, lighting a lavender-scented candle, or finding some lavender-scented lotion to quickly apply. Be careful not to indulge too much though, so that you don’t fall asleep on the clock!
When you’re feeling sleepy:
-After a wholesome lunch, or a long meeting, it can be hard to feel mentally energized enough to return to work. In this event, Peppermint and Eucalyptus plants have a scent that can be extremely awakening. Peppermint helps with alertness, and eucalyptus is used as a decongestant, which can help you feel refreshed right at your desk! Peppermint oil, candles, or candies are an easy way to get that awakening scent, and a simple eucalyptus plant used for decoration will also help!
When you are feeling uninspired:
-If you have writer’s block, or have a lot on your to-do list and no motivation to get started, stock up on a citrus scent! The smell of lemons, limes, and oranges are known to be very refreshing and uplifting. To take advantage of this scent you can light a candle, do some quick housekeeping around your desk with a citrus-scented cleaner, or slice up some fruit and eat it, or sit it nearby where its scent can easily reach you!
Try simply adding these scents to your typical workday, and see if it helps you!
